Lancaster University Management School

Project overview

The Lancaster University Management School project forms part of a major redevelopment of one of the UK’s longest-established business schools. Publicly available information shows that the scheme is focused on refurbishing the East Estate to bring older 1970s teaching and office accommodation into line with the modern standards established by the university’s newer West Pavilion. The wider redevelopment is intended to improve teaching areas, staff workspaces, meeting rooms, breakout spaces and specialist facilities, while also supporting the university’s sustainability goals by upgrading and repurposing the existing estate rather than replacing it wholesale. Delivered by Conlon Construction, the programme is part of a substantial investment in the future of the management school’s academic environment.

Within that broader educational setting, Capricorn Contracts’ package addresses the staff areas, offices and seminar spaces that will shape the everyday experience of those using the building. In higher education environments, window shading has to do several jobs at once: supporting concentration, reducing glare on screens and presentation surfaces, improving comfort for staff and students, and contributing to a neat and professional interior finish. Because the project is a refurbishment rather than a blank-sheet new build, the blinds package also needs to sit comfortably within renewed spaces that are being brought up to contemporary standards while respecting the operational needs of an active university campus.

This project demonstrates how specialist interior works support the ambitions of a larger institutional investment. The management school redevelopment is about much more than construction; it is about creating modern, high-performing academic spaces that better serve teaching, research and collaboration. Capricorn’s contribution plays into that outcome by helping ensure the refurbished rooms feel controlled, comfortable and ready for use, reinforcing the wider goal of delivering a smarter, more contemporary learning and working environment across the LUMS estate. It also supports the university’s intention that refurbished legacy buildings should feel every bit as capable and welcoming as the newer parts of the campus.

OUR SOLUTION

At Lancaster University Management School, Capricorn Contracts provided a coordinated blinds installation for staff areas, offices and seminar spaces as part of the wider refurbishment of the East Estate. The package was designed to support the daily performance of academic and administrative environments by improving light control, reducing glare and helping create comfortable spaces for teaching, meetings and focused work. By contributing a consistent internal finish across the refurbished accommodation, Capricorn helped Conlon Construction deliver updated university spaces that feel practical, professional and aligned with the wider redevelopment of the management school.
