Cranwood House

Project overview

Cranwood House in Muswell Hill is part of Haringey Council’s wider home-building programme, created to help address local housing need through the delivery of high-quality affordable homes on council-owned land. The development replaces a former care home site and has been publicly described as providing 41 new homes, the majority of which are for affordable council rent, while also bringing substantial new landscaping and tree planting into the scheme. Built by Formation Design & Build and designed to respond sensitively to its conservation area setting, the project combines social value, placemaking and practical housing delivery in a way that is especially important for urban infill developments in London.

Against that backdrop, Capricorn Contracts’ package formed part of the internal finishing stage that turns newly built apartments into comfortable living spaces. The blinds strategy had to respond to a varied residential layout spread across three blocks and 41 plots, while also reflecting differing room requirements. Living spaces needed dimout performance that softened daylight and improved privacy without making the rooms feel overly enclosed, while bedrooms called for stronger blackout control. Accessibility was another important part of the brief, with crank-operated systems included for accessible apartments to support easier day-to-day use.

Cranwood House therefore stands as more than a straightforward fit-out package. It is a project where considered detailing matters because the development is expected to serve residents for the long term and sit comfortably within an established neighbourhood. Capricorn’s contribution supports that aim by helping create interiors that are practical, comfortable and visually resolved from the moment the homes are occupied. In a scheme defined by affordable housing delivery, community sensitivity and high standards of finish, the window shading package plays a meaningful role in the everyday functionality of the completed homes. The project also speaks to a wider emphasis on dignity in affordable housing, where durable and well-considered finishes help ensure residents receive homes that feel carefully designed rather than merely completed.

OUR SOLUTION

At Cranwood House, Capricorn Contracts provided a carefully considered blinds installation across three residential blocks and 41 plots, helping Formation Design & Build deliver homes that are comfortable, private and ready for occupation. Rather than treating the package as a simple product schedule, Capricorn tailored the approach to suit the way different rooms would be used, with softer light control in living areas, stronger blackout performance in bedrooms and accessible crank-operated solutions where ease of use was essential. The result was a consistent finish across the development that supported both resident comfort and the wider quality expectations of this affordable housing scheme.
